AI Exposure, Credit Markets, and Employment in Brazil
Leila Aghabarari & Bas van Doornik  ·  IFC / World Bank

Uses Brazil's 20-year credit registry linked to matched employer–employee records to trace how AI exposure affects firm financing and labor market outcomes. Exploits the November 2022 generative AI shock in a difference-in-differences design, instrumenting AI exposure via the GAIA-E occupation scores. Finds that firms in high-exposure sectors experienced differential changes in credit access and employment composition following the ChatGPT release.
